All regular trash collection begins at 6 AM. It is recommended
trash be set out the night before your collection day. Containers should be leak-proof cans, not over thirty (30) gallons, with handles for lifting and tight fitting covers. All kitchen waste, liquid waste and other wet garbage should be placed in disposable plastic bags prior to placing in the trash cans. These appropriate containers containing garbage should be deposited at the appropriate place no sooner than sun down of the evening prior to the scheduled pick up and the container should be removed no later than the evening of the day of the collection.
All recyclables should be deposited to the street curb on the same day as trash collection, which begins at 6AM. Recycling items include any and all types of paper, books (hard back and paper back), cardboard(flattened), glass jars and bottles (clear, brown, and green) rinsed and with lids off, aluminum cans and foil, bi-metal and steel cans, #1 PET clear and green plastic bottles-rinsed and with lids off, #2 Natural HDPE milk and juice bottles and jars-rinsed and with lids off, #2 Colored HDPE bottles and jars-rinsed and with lids off. There is a one (1) limit recycling bin per household. These bins are to be used for recycling only.

BRUSH GUIDELINES FOR PICK UP

Arrangements should be made with the St. Albans Street & Sanitation Department for the collection of yard clippings and brush. You may make arrangements for pick up by calling 722-4259. There may be a minimum charge of $25 for excessive amounts of brush.

SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT PROGRAM FOR ST. ALBANS CITY RESIDENTS

The City of St. Albans offers a sidewalk replacement program for all city residents. It is the resident's responsibility for maintaining their sidewalk in front of their house and/or business. Residents pay for the cost of materials for their sidewalk; labor is done by City of St. Albans Public Works employees, at no extra charge. All material purchases need to be paid for up front before any work is done.

The St. Albans Public Works Department offers free compost to City residents. The composting site is located at our Transfer Station on Route 35 across from the Coca-Cola Plant. City residents must come to the City Garage and get a permit for the compost, then haul yourself. The Transfer Station is open 7AM to 2PM.
